Lord Krishna's childhood and home are an essential part of Hindu mythology and the epic Mahabharata. According to Hindu tradition, Lord Krishna was born in Mathura, a city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in India. Lord Krishna's parents were Vasudeva and Devaki. However, Devaki's brother, Kansa, was a cruel king who wanted to kill his sister's child as a prophecy had foretold that he would be the cause of Kansa's death. To protect Lord Krishna, Vasudeva took him across the river Yamuna to a small village called Gokul, where he was raised by his foster parents, Nanda and Yashoda.
